Reminders From Your Child

Here are some parenting tips, straight from a child’s perspective:

  1. Listen to Me (Even When I'm Just Whining)
Sometimes I just need to talk, even if it's about the most random stuff. If you listen, it helps me feel heard and understood.

  2. Let Me Have a Little Fun (Without Worrying About the Mess)
It's okay if I get a little messy sometimes. Let me play, explore, and be creative. I'll clean up later… probably!

  3. Hug Me a Lot, But Don’t Be Overwhelming
Hugs are the best, but I don’t always want to be smothered. A hug when I need it, and a little space when I don’t, works wonders!

  4. Let Me Make Decisions
It’s awesome when I can choose what to wear, what to eat, or what activity we do. It helps me feel like I have control, even if it's just in small things.

  5. Be Honest with Me
I know I’m small, but I can tell when you're not telling the truth. Just tell me what’s going on in a way I can understand. I appreciate it more than you know.

  6. Don’t Always Fix Everything for Me
I like when you help me, but sometimes I just need to try on my own first. It’s okay to let me figure things out and even make mistakes.

  7. Don’t Rush Me
I like to take my time with things. Whether it's eating or getting ready, please don’t rush me all the time. I get stressed when you do!

  8. Give Me Choices, Not Orders
Instead of telling me exactly what to do, offer me options. Like, “Do you want to clean your room now or in 10 minutes?” I feel more in control that way.

  9. Show Me You Love Me, Even When I Mess Up
I know I make mistakes (lots of them). But when you still show me love and tell me I can try again, it makes me feel like I’m still doing okay.

  10. Laugh Together
It’s fun when we can laugh at silly things together. Let’s be goofy and not take life too seriously. Sometimes a good laugh is all I need to feel better.

  11. Let Me Sleep (Please)
Sleep is so important, so don’t keep me up too late with things. I’ll be much happier and less grumpy if I get a good night’s sleep!

  12. Tell Me Stories
Whether it’s about your childhood or made-up tales, I love stories! It helps me feel connected to you and sparks my imagination.

  13. Give Me Room to Grow
I might not be as big or as smart as you yet, but I’m growing every day. Give me the space to do it at my own pace.

  14. Praise the Little Things
Sometimes I just need a little praise, even for small things. Like when I put my shoes on the right feet or clean up my toys. It helps me feel proud of myself.

  15. Be Silly with Me
Sometimes, I just want to have fun and be silly! Dance around, sing loudly, and just be goofy with me. It makes life way more fun.
