Reminders From Your Child
Here are some parenting tips, straight from a child’s perspective:
-
Listen to Me (Even When I'm Just Whining)
Sometimes I just need to talk, even if it's about the most random stuff. If you listen, it helps me feel heard and understood. -
Let Me Have a Little Fun (Without Worrying About the Mess)
It's okay if I get a little messy sometimes. Let me play, explore, and be creative. I'll clean up later… probably! -
Hug Me a Lot, But Don’t Be Overwhelming
Hugs are the best, but I don’t always want to be smothered. A hug when I need it, and a little space when I don’t, works wonders! -
Let Me Make Decisions
It’s awesome when I can choose what to wear, what to eat, or what activity we do. It helps me feel like I have control, even if it's just in small things. -
Be Honest with Me
I know I’m small, but I can tell when you're not telling the truth. Just tell me what’s going on in a way I can understand. I appreciate it more than you know. -
Don’t Always Fix Everything for Me
I like when you help me, but sometimes I just need to try on my own first. It’s okay to let me figure things out and even make mistakes. -
Don’t Rush Me
I like to take my time with things. Whether it's eating or getting ready, please don’t rush me all the time. I get stressed when you do! -
Give Me Choices, Not Orders
Instead of telling me exactly what to do, offer me options. Like, “Do you want to clean your room now or in 10 minutes?” I feel more in control that way. -
Show Me You Love Me, Even When I Mess Up
I know I make mistakes (lots of them). But when you still show me love and tell me I can try again, it makes me feel like I’m still doing okay. -
Laugh Together
It’s fun when we can laugh at silly things together. Let’s be goofy and not take life too seriously. Sometimes a good laugh is all I need to feel better. -
Let Me Sleep (Please)
Sleep is so important, so don’t keep me up too late with things. I’ll be much happier and less grumpy if I get a good night’s sleep! -
Tell Me Stories
Whether it’s about your childhood or made-up tales, I love stories! It helps me feel connected to you and sparks my imagination. -
Give Me Room to Grow
I might not be as big or as smart as you yet, but I’m growing every day. Give me the space to do it at my own pace. -
Praise the Little Things
Sometimes I just need a little praise, even for small things. Like when I put my shoes on the right feet or clean up my toys. It helps me feel proud of myself. -
Be Silly with Me
Sometimes, I just want to have fun and be silly! Dance around, sing loudly, and just be goofy with me. It makes life way more fun.
